A MEETING WITH NICOLO’ D’ALESSANDRO AND NAT SCAMMACCA INCONTRO CON NICOLO’ D’ALESSANDRO E NAT SCAMMACCA
THE WALL
i did a terrible thing!
! buiit the wali! it is high and wide and long And stranger still it is silence.
I know – for brick by brick ! raised the wall around me And closed myself away.
The wali is structured With seam’pps time I cannot grasp it I cannot tea< .1 down,
The fool I am says,
It is not there.
But I know the wail Is high and wide and long.
For bricks I used the peace i gathered in her arms Thinking peace was mine forever. Then I sacrificed our love For solid stones to stand As the substance of the wall.
Now I have nothing but the wall And silence.
What a terrible thing to know It was I
Who built the wall!

IL MURO
Ho fatto una cosa terribile!
Ho costruito un muro!
Er alto è iargo è lungo e più strano ancora, è silenzioso.
- lo so, perchè pietra su pietra sollevai il muro attorno a me.

LITTLE THINGS
I have not much to say And yet
I feel whole continents dragging me back In small things.
The morning grass,
Wet
And old old things Like the green pump Its metal dripping wet, And me shivering With fresh newness, Surprised at little things.

PICCOLE COSE
e vecchie vecchie cose
come la pompa verdastra
il suo metallo bagnato e gocciolante
e io
g rabbrividire
nel fresco di cose nuove.
La sorpresa di piccole cose.
